Measuring Your Wrist for a Bracelet

When it comes to bracelets, fit is everything. Too tight and it’s uncomfortable. Too loose and it spins, snags, or even slips off. The good news? With a simple measuring trick (the same one we show in the video above), you can find your ideal bracelet size in under a minute.

This guide walks you through the exact steps from the video so you can follow along at your own pace, double-check your measurements, and confidently order your bracelet online.

What You’ll Need

You don’t need any special tools. Grab one of the following:

  • Flexible measuring tape (sewing tape measure is best)

  • OR a strip of paper, string, ribbon, or floss plus a ruler

  • Pen or marker to mark your measurement

Optional but helpful:

  • A notepad or your phone to record your measurements

  • A mirror so you can see how the bracelet will sit on your wrist

Step 1: Find the Right Spot on Your Wrist

For most bracelet styles, you’ll measure just below the wrist bone—the slightly narrower area where the bracelet will naturally sit.

  1. Look for the prominent bone on the little-finger side of your wrist.

  2. Place your tape (or string/paper) just below that bone, closer to your hand.

  3. This is your wrist circumference point and the base for all bracelet sizing.

Step 2: Measure Your Wrist Circumference

If You’re Using a Flexible Measuring Tape

  1. Wrap the tape around your wrist at the measuring point.

  2. Make sure it’s snug but not squeezing your skin.

  3. Check that the tape is lying flat and not twisted.

  4. Read the number where the end meets the rest of the tape (in inches or centimeters).

Write down that number. That’s your true wrist size.

If You’re Using String or Paper

  1. Wrap the string/paper strip around your wrist at the measuring point.

  2. Mark where the end overlaps with a pen or your fingernail.

  3. Lay the string/paper flat next to a ruler.

  4. Measure from the starting end to your mark.

Again, write that number down—this is your wrist circumference.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Even a tiny measurement error can make a big difference. Here are a few things to watch out for (we highlight these in the video too):

  • Measuring too loosely or too tightly
Your base measurement should be snug and honest. Add ease after, not during.

  • Measuring over sleeves
Always measure directly on your skin, not over clothing or a watch.

  • Guessing instead of measuring
Every wrist is different—even on the same person! (Your dominant hand can be slightly larger.)

  • Forgetting your fit preference
Two people with the same wrist size might like totally different feels. Think: snug and secure vs. loose and drapey.

FAQs About Bracelet Sizing

Q: My measurement falls between two sizes—what should I choose?
A: If you like a tighter, minimal movement fit, pick the smaller size. If you prefer a looser, drapey bracelet, pick the larger size.

Q: Can I measure my wrist with my phone or a credit card as a reference?
A: It’s always best to use a measuring tape or ruler, but in a pinch, you can use a strip of paper + a known object size as a rough guide. Just remember: the more accurate the measurement, the better the fit.

Q: Do I need to re-measure if I’m ordering multiple bracelets?
A: You can reuse your wrist measurement, but it’s smart to measure again if:

  • It’s been a long time since your last measurement

  • Your weight has changed significantly

  • You’re switching to a different bracelet style (e.g., from stretch to bangle)
